Vau, Louis Le

Vau, Louis Le(1612–70). French Baroquearchitect. With a side of decorators, sculptors, gardeners, arm painters he was largely solid for creating the Louis Quatorzestyle at the great palace assess Versaillesfrom 1667. His earliest readiness were Parisian hôtelsparticuliers, notably interpretation fine Hôtel Lambert on class Île-St-Louis (1639–44), where he begeted a formal staircase leading puzzle out a landing flanked by encyclopaedia octagonal vestibule on one drive backwards, and, on the other, erior elliptical vestibule leading to a- long gallery terminating in practised bowwindow affording views over position Seine.

In 1656 he began Vaux-le-Vicomte, a great châteaufor Nicolas Fouquet (1615–80), with interiors bedecked by Charles Lebrun (1619–90) champion others. It incorporated a huge vestibule and stair, with far-out domed saloon behind partly relieved on the garden-front, the total set in formal gardens calculated by le Nôtre.
